As part of the Saturday Wine Walk event, artist Michael Tieman will unveil in bronze ‘The Wine Thief' his newest sculpture in the Hands of the Artists collection. Sally O'Neill will have two new oil paintings in the gallery especially created for this wine event from her wine and flowers series. This year from 1-4pm Helvetia Winery will be pouring some of their fine wines in the gallery. Stop in and enjoy the wine and art, and help the kids.
Michael attended the Columbus College of Art and Design and in 1972 received his BFA in advertising design. Taking his degree, Michael and his Canadian wife went to Vancouver B.C. Canada in 1973 where he started out on a successful thirty-five year plus international career in advertising design. In 1986 Michael relocated to Portland , Oregon with his family. Tieman has sketched and painted since childhood and has spent almost four decades as a working artist, both as a graphic designer and a fine artist. “I create my bronze sculpture as a three dimensional painting; texture is the impasto brushstroke, color is the play of light and shadows across the surfaces, and detail is the free style movement of the impressionist style.”
“As soon as I started working in oils I couldn't get enough. As an admirer of the impressionists I love the effects of light and color the medium allows. My attempt is to create a place more beautiful than perhaps it may actually be. I want my paintings to bring the viewer into a world they would love to be in. A world of beauty and sun drenched days.” Although largely self-taught, Sally has studied privately with a number of instructors, including her constant mentor, watercolorist Don O'Neill. Sally is a full time artist and devotes the majority of her time to
painting. She has lived in Oregon since 1991 and maintains a studio,
which she shares with husband Tim and their two dogs. A Fine Art Gallery established in 1977, Haystack Gallery displays the artwork of over 75 Northwest, national and internationally recognized artists, covering a wide range of styles including original oils, acrylics and watercolors, bronze and metal sculptures, hand blown glass, limited and open edition giclées and lithographs.
