Sculpture Exhibition Highlights September CANNON BEACH , OREGON –Haystack Gallery, celebrating its 33rd anniversary in Cannon Beach, is hosting a month long “Sculpture” exhibition in conjunction with the other members of the Cannon Beach Gallery Group. Over a decade ago, Haystack Gallery brought sculpture into the gallery in the form of unique limited edition bronze frogs from an English born and trained artist living in California, Tim Cotterill also known as “Frogman”. Tim's frogs have become popular and quite collectable over the years. People mistake his work for glass since his patinas are bright and colorful. To help protect the patinas he covers the frogs with a clear coat varnish giving them a naturally wet look. Since then we have added other sculptors whose work compliments our traditional style of art in the gallery. We have been pleased to add nationally recognized father and son sculptors from Colorado, Mark and Eli Hopkins, whose work is represented in the gallery with playful children and multicolored birds. A few years ago we added an emerging young Oregon metal wall sculptor Eric Langeliers. Eric has a special way with rolled steel as he cuts and bends it to his will then to add movement he grinds it and heats it to add the deep colors. Eric's images reflect his love of the outdoors and his enjoyment of hunting and fishing. His creations range from wildlife such as elk, bear and fish to the grace of herons and the majesty of eagles. Capturing a delicate hummingbird, a family of quails as well as windswept trees or mighty mountain ranges. Local painter and sculptor Michael Tieman also joined Haystack Gallery several years ago and brought his energetic figurative bronze pieces including the “Hands of the Artist” collection and his latest work “Courage”. The latest artist to join our sculpture community is internationally renowned local artist Mike Smith. Smith, mostly known as a painter brings his whimsical style to Haystack capturing in bronze sculptures the cats, birds, sheep and horses as seen in his paintings.
